My Journey                                          I completed my undergrad degree in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism at the University of Maine in Orono.  My love for wildlife led me to take a position as a Biological & Public Use Intern for the United States Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service at Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge.  For two summers I lived in a remote cabin along the peaceful waters of Sunkhaze Stream in Milford, Maine. My duties included conducting wildlife surveys for numerous species including Anurans, Yellow Rails, Sedge Wrens, Ruffed grouse, marshland birds, grassland birds, morning doves, salamanders, and assisted with Neotropical bird surveys.

As a senior, I had the fortune of being required to take a basic forest management course for non-forestry students.  Through this class I learned how integral forest management was for wildlife and recreation.  It became obvious how important forestry was not only in its own right, but how it offered a solid foundation for these other areas.  I saw it as the proverbial third leg of the "outdoor" stool.  It was something that could lead to an enjoyable career, all while making a real difference in benefiting so many areas and people.

Upon graduation I enrolled in the Master of Forestry Program.  During the summers I worked as a Forestry Technician for the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.  My regular duties included timber cruising, marking trees to harvest based on silvicultural prescriptions, painting and layout of harvest areas, and assisting in timber showings to potential buyers.  Some of my more memorable moments were assisting in stream restoration for trout habitat, going to the Allegheny National Forest in Pennsylvania to mark salvage timber following a tornado, and obtaining the timber cruiser certification.  After receiving my Master in Forestry degree I went to work as a Forester Intern for a private consulting company.  I undertook all the actives of a consulting forester and soon became a licensed Forester in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and a Society of American Foresters Certified Forester.  With a vast array of experience and education in wildlife, recreation, and forestry in both the public and private sectors, the decision was made to start my own business.  Quality Forest Management was born!
